THE ISLAND OF CEYLON

What makes Sri Lanka a special place to visit? Firstly there is so much to do, you will be spoilt for choice. The you have the welcoming people. Endless beaches. History and culture. Natural beauty. Ancient sites and legendary temples. And home of the Ceylon tea.

My first visit to Sri Lanka was in 2003, and in Feb 2022 i decided to spend my birthday there. What a great choice!

I started the trip in Sigiriya, as i always wanted to see the Unesco World Heritage Site of Sigiriya Rock. There i went on a hot air balloon in the morning and saw all the beauty underneath me. Straight after we climbed the majestic Sigiriya Rock.

Next day we drove to Kandy and visited the Buddhist Temple of the tooth that houses the sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha.

Reaching the tea country in the Central Highlands was jaw-dropping; rolling hills clad with row upon row of luscious, green tea plants. We stayed at the Relais & Châteaux Ceylon Tea Trails, which comprises of five restored historic tea planter residences, called bungalows, perched at an altitude of 1250 meters in Sri Lanka’s panoramic Ceylon tea region. The 27 rooms & suites with period furnishings, gracious butler service, and gourmet cuisine create an ambiance that has made Tea Trails the gold standard for luxury in Sri Lanka. This is the ideal setting for trekking and biking against the breathtaking backdrop of mountains, lakes, winding roads and waterfalls. If you prefer to unwind, observe life on a working tea estate while being pampered by your butler, enjoy a spa treatment, croquet on the lawn or sunbathe alongside the pool. Or explore the lush tea fields & visit a century old factory for a gentle education in the art of Ceylon Tea.
